In the past, I have had the same problem with an Epson and Canon. The use of 3rd party inks may cause problems. Each vendor, specifically Epson and HP formulate their inks to work properly with the hardware. I now have an HP all-in-one that works flawlessly, and we only buy HP branded inks, usually discounted somewhere.
In any case, make sure the printer that you get is highly supported by Linux.
Hi. Could you tell me (off list if need be) what the HP model is and your source of discontinued inks?
