Admittedly, that is still in development (via Horde), but some folks on the Kolab lists have reported decent success. For now, we're only offering mail access via Squirrelmail.

There are plugins for Outlook for Kolab, but I haven't tested them.

That's built-in for Kolab, as it's using DIMAP/cached IMAP. One thing to consider if you have Outlook users is the way the agenda works - we were using SLOX before and our Outlook users (or better: those used to Outlook) had big problems with the way appointments worked. SLOX does not send invitations to appointments (like Kolab does and like the Outlook folks are used to) but notifications. The difference is that you can accept/deny an invitation directly upon receipt and if you deny, nothing will be changed in your agenda. Contrary to that, a notification just tells you that an appointment already has been placed into your agenda - you then have to do some extra steps to deny it "after the fact". Our users did not like this at all and this was one of the reasons not to use eGroupware (which - as far as my tests showed - also uses notifications).
