I am sorry to say this but not only that I didn't miss it but I
explicitly mentioned it in my OP as the crucial part of the problem...
Just read the 3rd paragraph of my OP again and you'll see. And yes I
didn't mention that I don't use 10.1 yet... Just 9.3 and 10.0 (32 and 64bit)

Namely, this README file points to the repository that is not useable by
Yast any more, at least not in the old way or in any other way I managed
to recognize and understand.

The old way was good for me and my kde/gnome stuff on 9.3, 10.0 and
10.0_amd64. I had only to refresh and just run software install after
it. It used to print all the updated versions in blue so I could easily
mark them (with gray +) and install everything with a click of a
button... Now it only works for gnome... KDE is gone. That was my point...

As far as I can see now all I can do is d/l everything from the new
repositories and do the whole update job manually - rpm everything on my
own, then delete source files on my own, not to mention taking account
of the versions, dependencies etc... Is *that* the new way for kde
users? If not, then what and how?

Thanks again. Anything new?
