If your ruler matches mine, you should find the maximum viewable area
measures about 17.875". By the truncation rounding method typical of
many configuration databases, that makes our '19"' displays just miss
being 18".

What makes it absurd? My P991 is running 1792x1344, 1400x1050 and
1280x960 all at once (tty7-9). It can also run 2048x1536, and every
other 4/3 resolution all the way down to 640x480, maybe even less if
you're seriously enamoured of pixelation.
