I've just joined FNAL where they use Kerberos. I'd like to install it on my laptop as I work from home a lot. At the moment I use a crypto acrd to connect to FNAL servers from home which is a pain when I have many files to upload/download.... without mentioning the times the server and the crypto card get unsynchonized so that no alphanumeric sequence works any more until they reset the interface. The workaround is to install and activate the Kerberos Client. FNAL provides a Kerberos Client downloadable for Linux users. But FNAL has its own Linux distro which is basically Red Hat. There is no HelpDesk aid for this installation as the HelpDesk is devoted to Windows users ... just for a change ... I've heard of some sufference involved at getting the Kerberos Client on Linux interfacing properly with its server counterpart and establishing a connection. I recently found out that SuSE 9.3 comes with a Kerberod Client. I wonder if someone has had some positive experience at installing it and in which context ... I mean I do not know whether to use the Kerberos CLient that is in SuSE distribution kit or to download the one provided by FNAL that may be customized for Red Hat ...
