(moved OT section to P.S.) OT - Is this a good method of moving your directory to a new system? I am thinking of upgrading my laptop to 10.1 and want to copy back my home directory from a .dar backup to the new system once I'm done.
For laptops, I _always_ rsync to a main server regularly. I typically create a user directory called "~/worksync" that always gets uploaded to their department server in a rsync script every hour when the notebook system is connected to the main network. The user also has a "~/work" directory located in their home directory on their department server. They know "~/work" only stays on the server, and anything they save to "~/worksync" gets sync'd to their notebook. On the notebook itself, "~/work" is a symlink to "~/worksync". As far as other files (e.g., configuration) in the home directory on the notebook computer, I'd do a special rsync to a special directory in their home directory to save those before any upgrade. Then once the upgrade is complete, I'd have the user copy back any setting files they needed. -- Bryan P.S. I haven't mentioned anything and hoped others would end this, but ...
LOL! Oh, and in case anyone's curious - I had to suffer through two games today. I think it was my wife's way of telling me to get off my rear and get work done outside because she was gonna be blaring Soccer in the den all afternoon. I think our television's volume goes up to 11.
<Ignorant American Mode=ON> What's all this "football" talk about? I'm not into Arena Football and the College Football season doesn't start until August! Until then, my Golden Knights will just have to contain their wish to slaughter the rest of C-USA. But I've got my season tickets for the next 2 years lined up, including tickets to the swamp for the upset of the Gators! -- Bryan J.
