Hello people,

probably it is a question long answered (in that case I apologise).
I am running SUSE 10.0 and I would like to install the VLC player.
To do this, I dl'd VLC vlc-0.8.5-2.pm.3.i586.rpm from Packman.
During installation it says i need avahi package:

libavahi-client.so.3 is needed by vlc-0.8.5-2.pm.2
libavahi-common.so.3 is needed by vlc-0.8.5-2.pm.2
libavcodec.so.51 is needed by vlc-0.8.5-2.pm.2
libavformat.so.50 is needed by vlc-0.8.5-2.pm.2
libavutil.so.49 is needed by vlc-0.8.5-2.pm.2
libfaac.so.0 is needed by vlc-0.8.5-2.pm.2
libmpeg2.so.0 is needed by vlc-0.8.5-2.pm.2
libpostproc.so.51 is needed by vlc-0.8.5-2.pm.2
libxosd.so.2 is needed by vlc-0.8.5-2.pm.2

Unsolved requirments
avahi requires libdaemon.so.0

I googled and found that I need to install (in that order) the following:
python-gdbm-2.4.2-18.i586.rpm
avahi-0.6.5-27.i586.rpm
avahi-compat-mDNSResponder-0.6.5-27.i586.rpm

But python-gdbm-2.4.2-18.i586.rpm needs python 2.4.2 while Suse
10.0 and 10.1 ships with 2.4.1. The result is a huge dependancy chain problem,
that I can't quite handle (even OOo quick starter appears to be jeopardised).

Do you have any ideas how can I install VLC on SUSE?

Thanks in advance!
