[SLE] Online update woes

running:

kdesu yast2 online_update

I ticked all the boxes, barring two and pressed the Accept button. It
seemed to finish a bit too quick, so I ran it a second time. There is
nothing quick about getting to the stage of selecting the patches
though! This time around there were still most of the boxes ticked on
the left hand side so I pressed the Accept button again and the program
just closed. I've done this a few more times as I thought it had crashed
but when running it from gdb I get 'Program Exited Normally'. Each time
I run it now, the same patches show up, but they don't seem to get
installed, the program just exits.

So a few questions...
1) Which logs do I look at to see which patches really did get installed?
2) Is this just me who expects the behaviour to be more user friendly?
I'm sure in Suse 9.3, once the patches were installed, they no longer
appeared on the left hand side. 'Accept' does not mean exit, so I can't
believe this is normal behaviour.
3) How can I tell if the 'package management update' mentioned at
http://en.opensuse.org/Bugs:Most_Annoying_Bugs is installed. I find YaST
extremely slow and rather unstable, so I'm finding it incredibly
frustrating to get the machine set up well. (I've submitted a bug where
yast just hangs when the network connection is unreliable - bug 184224).

Thanks
William
