Best I can figure, atieventsd is supposed to write to the log on driver
events. I'm guessing it's not critical, so I disabled it through YaST's
System Services. So far, so good. But if anyone does know more about
this, I would love to hear about it.
Also, if you happen to have the ATI driver on a 64-bit machine, take a
look at /var/log/messages - You may be having the same problem as me and
not even know it.
