I was experiencing an almost identical problem with 10.1 which I
resolved by going into "KDE desktop configuration -> Display -> Power
Management setting" then setting "Enable display power management" to on
and setting the 3 options there to disable.

It sounds illogical and I don't know why it should work, but it works
for me. YMMV.

Hi Dave!

Did you also check to 'ON' the option to make the screen saver aware
of power control?
