First time moderation, or approved members, what is the difference? Someone takes time to read the mail and let poster subscribe, or not.
very small in work (all the first time users needs to hit a moderator), but quite important for the user. There is no need of dealing with explicit moderation, the user simply subscribe (accepted) and send the first post. if the post in on topic, it's validated and the subscription confirmed. The user may not even know that. If the post is not on topic, it's returned with an explanation message explaining why the message is OT. The message _not_ being validated any subsequent message of this user will be moderated again. I think this way is much more "soft" than asking anybody to get approved explicitely. in fact is anyone asks to be subscribed, on what topic do you say yes or no? with my system it's the post itself that get the answer.
With such differences that we demonstrated in criteria what is acceptable and what not, most of the people will be from dissatisfied to disgruntled.
only OT post will be impacted, and the answer being private, the people Hva littele reason to grin...
BTW, thanks for help around http://en.opensuse.org/Frontpage_redesign. The subpage in cases like this is really better choice.
