If it works, you notice it by the printer "resetting" when the computer is powered up - in fact, if I boot W98 with my printer on, it resets two or three times, as windows goes by it different boot processes. Touching that line after emptying the buffer might work for some printers: it could be a configuration option enabled somewhere (admin decision).
