Hi,
Wow has this box given me problem after problem with installs.
You've helped me out with the hardware on the monitor and resolution and I
took care of that after some good advice from everyone.
Got some good help for logdigest and security scripts.
Now.... I'm seriously baffled.
I installed a fresh install again because I needed to redo how the
partitions were set up. So I did so.
Hardware info:
Medoin MD 1768 PC
512 MBs RAM
128 MB Nvidia Ge Force FX 5200 card
Intel Celeron 2.40 GHz Processor
HD#1 : 80 GBs, /dev/hda
HD#2 : 160 GBs, /dev/hdb1
Built in CD-RW drive
Built in DVD-ROM Drive
350 Watt Power Supply, about 3 weeks old.
Crappy intagrated suond card (Linux makes it work anyway without having to
configure it)
17 inch HP Pavilion mx70 monitor
Here was how I had it set up at first:
/dev/hda1 : swap
/dev/hda2 : Slackware partition
/dev/hdb1 : SUSE
I just finished installing security updates and so on to the machine, and I
decided that I would use my other SUSE 9.3 Professional machine as a basis
for the software selection as that box has everything I use.
So I pop in a floppy, SSH over to the box, load yast, and export the
selection to the floppy.
Works fine.
Pull out floppy, put in this box, open YAST2, File > Import > Floppy
"Can not mount floppy".....
OK retry...
Same thing.
Type mount to make sure floppy is mounted. It is.
Decide to try somethin and make a bootable Floppy, it tells me it's going
to unmount the floppy drive to do so and I say OK. It's makes it and it's
fine... (Can you see the frustration of wondering how one works and the
other isn't?) <-- Add to this it's 9 AM I got 6 hours of sleep YESTERDAY
and haven't slept since...
OK anyway, I load up another Xterm, su to root, and umount floppy.
I then try again. It doesn't work as usual. Can't mount floppy.
OK, I remount the floppy.... I cd to /media/floppy that's fine. I do ls in
there and it says no medium found even though the read / write light came
on.
Any ideas what could be going on here? I mean it formattted and made a boot
floppy but I can't seem to do anything else...
