Dear list!

Like in 10.0 I can read a lot about problems / bugs within sound
system. I did a fresh install of 10.1 final because it's said that
gnome integration would be increased. That's true for graphical
interface but not for sound. My sound problem is _exactly_ same as it
was with 10.0 and I would bet it's somehow connected with gnome...

First: It's not about yast crashing when trying to edit sound card
settings! It's anoying but not really a problem.

I'm using SB Live Player 1024, it worked until 9.3 without any
complaint. Since 10.0 it is not recognized by auto-yast-detection but
it's installable by selecting module (hence emu10k1).
After first reboot no sound is usable in X-Window (at least gnome).
Sound IS WORKING in real console (Alt+Ctrl+Fx) using aplayer, same in
console window NOT WORKING as every other graphical app (e.g.
banshee).
After su'ing and doing rcalsasound reload (not start or stop start)
sound is playing well as in gnome as in console.

So my conclusion is that X-Window / gnome is overlaying original
settings. After doing the rcalsasound alsa settings are restored. In
my view it's about esd or gstreamer (btw what is alsasink?)...

Who can help, what to do? I abandon a bug report because there are
dozens of similar postings. I'm asking for how to get close to the
reason...
