My impression (don't know if it's correct) is that REPOSITORIES
maintain two kinds of information - an "index" (e.g., .pkglist)
and the upgraded files themselves. When smart says "upgrades are
available", it is from looking at the "index". When smart says
"cannot be found", it is looking for the upgraded file *itself*.
I do not see it as smart's fault if the repository provides
information within its "index" that causes smart to be misled.
As far as 'smart will not update until all the downloads are
completed' -- I think that is a user-unfriendly policy. It
ought to be "smart" enough to *automatically* update those
packages which it *did* download, if updating them presents no
dependency problems. That way, the user has FEWER "deferred
updates" to worry about.
What I do (smart --gui) about 'smart will not update until all
downloads are completed' is to click on View -> Hide Unmarked
(& Expand All), find the file(s) that could not be downloaded,
and "unmark" them (e.g., RMB -> Keep). Then clicking again on
'Apply marked changes' installs what *was* downloaded.
