The nature of his complaint was so general that I chose not to respond
earlier. I don't waste much time comparing which is faster on what machine
with which distribution or OS... I am more concerned that my Linux system is
consistent and stable and unobtrusive to my work.

If a program gets inordinately slow, I'll investigate. My interpretation... on
my own system... is Firefox gets slower to load as functionalities are added.
I've now got a 'kazillion' functions bolted into it and can do an
extraordinary number of things from inside the browser. I don't think this
behavior is unusual, since Firefox must load, first, then verify the
integrity of the installed plug-ins and extensions before loading them.

If he comes back with a specific scenario, like "I installed xyz.xpt and now
Firefox hangs every time I visit www.blahblah.com" then this gives us
something more to work with. But without knowing his technical competency and
capacity to maintain a stable Linux system and sort real problems out, it's
just too hard to judge if his observations describe a real or subjective
problem.

regards,

Carl
