Just a few comments. Instead of "And why should anyone take any notice of such a request from you?", did you not mean to say "OK, sorry about the superfluous email, but I'm new and, ok, I didn't read or failed to notice the rules about sending test messages.
First off, I am not new, although I have been lurking for a while. Second, I did not send the test message which initiated this, please check to confirm.
Then, in an off-list reply to the poster you could have mentioned the problem with the embedded email address.
Third, I have raised the matter of plain text email addresses with Mr Shanahan previously both on and off list. He chooses to carry on in his own sweet way. The consequences are that I get spam from him posting my address to the list, because the spammers scrape the archive. This is directly relevant to Mr Shanahan's complaint about a test message. If Mr Shanahan cannot tolerate a test message, and wants to raise a complaint, he must also accept responsibility himself for his role in exposing list members to ongoing spam.
This list is a community, and you will discover over time that there is a right way and a wrong way to address this particular community, as with any other community.
It's Mr Shanahan I am addressing. If you have a better way of addressing him, I'll judge it by your success in getting him not to put list members' email addresses in plain text in his replies.
Here, there is so much traffic (100 postings a day, give or take) that people who strongly support other people when they have problems get irritated by, in essence, having to go through, in essence, junk postings. Many of these people are the same people who are most likely to be able to help you through some particular problem you may be having.
Thank you for your concern. For me it's been 2 way traffic in the past
I don't speak for the list (of course) but have been a member long enough to have a fair feel for proper protocol. Just a few comments to be taken or left, as you please.
You're a good bloke, and I can understand if you haven't understood where I am coming from on this
