Check the latter half of the post :-)
In a nutshell, the OP has a mp3 player/SD card reader. From what I have read it is an mp3 player that solely uses SD cards
storage medium. If the OP plugs the player into the USB
SD card inserted then he gets a load of errors (see his
the device is unusable (he cannot browse or add content to
card). However, if the OP plugs the mp3 player in first
for its port with an listing) and the SD then after it
has initialised he inserts an SD card then everything is hunky dory and the sun shines :-) In other words, the same SD card is seen and is accessible etc. I at first thought dodgy SD card (I've got one myself) until I read about the last bit. He has done a Google search and it would appear to be a kernel problem (OP's hypothesis, not mine) so he is asking if anybody else has any other ideas to either back this up or suggest an alternative.
I think :-)
Thank you for the clear summary of my problem/question that might not have been gone through by my long post. I have checked my cardreader in the meantime on winXP and it has recognized the unit with the inserted card with no hassle. So the culprit must be either my hardware or the suse system (kernel and/or udev, hal etc.). So once more the question to be clear: What causes the above problem and how could it be fixed?
