logsurfer is used because I don't know a better log watching and event creation system. I would prefer to have a better one; it is not really suited for the task, as explained below.
If what you need is simply isolating certain messages, that can be easily done with syslog-ng: it has regexp filters, so that you can send the isolated messages to a file, socket or network destination.
