Help me, please!
I just got VMware 5.5. I did have a similar problem. I solved this by specifying the port to use : /dev/parport0. Don't let VMware autodetect this (auto). I still have to find out how to let permissions and/or ownership stick, and how to disable the loading of the lp-module. The times I tried, I removed lp (rmmod lp) and I changed permissions to 777 (666 should do I believe) and/or ownership to group lp while I made myself member of group lp (I don't like to be member of group root as normal user). Then my dongle was detected fine. I'm going to post a question about ownerships and modules. P.S. I just tried this once, I'm going to try again but I have other work to do for the moment. -- Met vriendelijke groeten, Koenraad Lelong R&D Manager ACE electronics n.v.
