Hello,
Does anyone have a recommendation for a light weight laptop/notebook (aprox' 5 lbs or less) that also has a decent screen resolution, including all the wireless features, usb, etc.
I've searched TigerDirect, Insight, etc, but nothing has caught my eye.
Many thanks in advance.
I think you already got one answer which has sage advice.
I can only add that I would recommend you choose one which has a standard Intel WiFi chipset and NVidia graphics (though I've had no issues with ATI on any of my systems).
Other than that you should be pretty good to go. FWIW, IBM (a.k.a. Levono) has decent *nix support as does Dell. (I'm writing this on an Inspiron 600m.)
I am not sure how easy it is to port to Linux, but other models seem to work. Try the Averatec 4100 series. It has 512Mbytes, 80 Gbyte hard drive, Turion MT-30, Wirel b & G, DVD burner, 1280x800 (I think), and 4.7 lb. It is selling at Costco for $800.
