Question on fonts:///

I am pretty new to Linux and this board so I apologize if I have posted
this in the wrong place...

I have been using version 10.0 for about two months now and I have found
that the help files have given direction for adding TrueType fonts by
opening the 'fonts:///' folder in the file manager. (I am using Gnome) I
can view the contents but I cannot copy anything there. I did find a
work around to add the fonts though..

This is similar to an issue where the help files refer me to the
"applications:///" folder for dealing with the Gnome menu as well. In
this case, I don't even get it to open anything... Even more confusing
is that if I try to launch the File Manager - Super User I get the
prompt for the root password but after putting it in... nothing
happens..

Does anyone have any suggestions or answers to these behaviors? Am I
being prevented from accessing these locations or are they locked down?
Thanks in advance for your help and patience with me...

Clark
