Here is a good place to start. That and Google. I learned about them when troubleshooting Mozilla, then Firefox and plug-ins issues and I was reading stuff from all over the net.
Or, for good bedtime reading, get the O'Reilly book, 'Firefox Hacks'. It is very , very interesting.
