Hey all, Happy to say SuSE 10.0 installed nicely on the Gateway M520 laptop! Had a few niggling problems with one left, but I think the computer likes having a good OS on it! ;o)
For owners of such machines or anyone that has a hint, sound is working, but isn't working. Confused? Me too! Everything shows it working, volumes up, nothing muted, modules loaded, etc. Checked all files related, made user part of audio group, but no sound yet. CDs play, but no sound. No errors in any log messages. I'm thinking at this point there is something on the computer that needs to be turned on for sound to escape. I don't have a manual, so don't know what that might be.
Any thoughts/help?
Curious as to the module your sound card needs. Might it be the one that Anders has noted as being flaky from a recent thread on sound? ========= It uses an Intel sound module, which is loading. Further checking shows everything is as it should be in Linux. I'm still thinking it's something to do with the computer and finding a way to turn it on
