The reason is to name the distribution ("SUSE" is a company and no distribution) and to remove the "OSS" string. The OSS string gets removed because we do not make a difference between the box product and the download edition anymore. The first 5 CDs do contain always pure open source software, but we will offer an addon CD later (and inside the box) with the non-open source software. We hope to avoid the confusion about the different SUSE Linux distribution in that way.
I am all for this change because there has been a lot of confusion about the different versions in the past months - mostly among "outsiders". But your post arises a couple of questions: Earlier it was communicated that the 10.1 retail version would install the closed stuff (i.e. Java, Flash) automatically during installation - as opposed to the free download version. Is this still the case? Will the closed stuff will be on the dual layer dvd in the retail version, or only on the addon cd? These are not matters of major importance - but I'm writing a (Danish) guide for 10.1 and I'd like to know these things before the release. Martin / cb400f
