If using manual 'rpm -Uvh' commands, how to update the YaST2 package database?
The YaST2 "package database" *is* the rpm database. YaST is a gui frontend... ;-)
Yet, will the YaST2 software list be automatically updated or completed installing additional or newer packages with rpm commands?
Of course! I just told you the YaST2 "package database" IS the rpm database. The program "rpm" that you run at the command line is the actual entity that creates and manages your system's rpm database. It uses the database to keep track of installed software and dependencies as you add, upgrade and remove software on your system. It doesn't matter if you're using YaST or command line, the database is the same. All you're doing is changing interfaces to it. In other words, when you launch YaST's 'Install and Remove Software" module (pre 10.0)... now called "Software Management" module... and you're looking at the listing of installed software, you're actually looking into the database, itself. clearer?
