That is the Lightscribe (www.lightscribe.com) feature that is out for CD/DVD
drives and media. Its currently a gold monochrome with different base media
color planned for the future.

Looks like Sebastian Trueg of k3b fame is working with LaCie to get it
working in Linux. I can't find any other info on Linux capabilities beyond
NeroLinux...
