Xcdroast uses the term fixate, as does, I believe, cdrecord (which is
used by xcdroast, anyway, as far as I know). I've never considered it a
regional thing, but if it is, perhaps that's the term used in Germany
where the author of cdrecord (Joerg Schilling) is from.

Either term describes the action well. You are closing the filesystem so you will not be able to add additional files. Some other CD burners had advanced software to allow punchin and recovery of fragged CDs but I have yet to see it migrated from Windows to Linux.
