manual (non-YAST) SUSE-supplied kernel update

I have a system that is not near the internet. I need to compile a
device driver on it, which means that I need to have kernel-sources
installed. If I wanted to update the kernel from the current SUSE RPMS
that one gets via an online update, what more do I need to do than
install the kernel RPMS? I guess the kernel-update-tool enters here
somewhere. Is there a description for this sort of thing?

OTOH, is there an archive of previous kernel update rpms for SUSE 10? I
see that there is a place for old patches. But I did not see a place for
old RPMs.
