That's a good line of thought! And it suggests another:
1. Go to http://www.toms.net/rb/
2. Click on "Read the FAQ" and note especially Section (5):
"DOS installation"
3. Back up, then click on "Download tomsrtbt here",
choose a mirror (say Tux.org) and get
tomsrtbt-2.0.103.dos.zip
4. Then follow the instructions you noted at (2), and you should
end up with a floppy containing a pretty comprehensive "Linux
on a floppy".
5. Boot your Win machine from this floppy (a few simple choices
to make as it boots).
6. Then, mount your Win drive onto this Linux, and -- provided
the filesystem in your floppies is supported by this Linux --
you should just be able to 'cp' the files into a Win directory.
7. Failing that, you can certainly 'dd' a whole floppy into a
single file in the Win directory, which is at least one way
of archiving them until you can handle them properly later.
Good luck!
Ted.
