I even see that as a pretty good idea from Novell, to have NLD concentrate on a single desktop. Personally, I don't really see GNOME as a better choice as KDE but Novell has much more know-how about GNOME than KDE, with the ex-Ximian team. So, from that point of view, it's understandable. Of course it's understandable. Ex-Ximian folks WANT gnome. That was their specialty. I'd bet that if somehow Novell had purchased something from the kde group, we'd be hearing a different tune about now.
don't really care much about it. <rant> Maybe that would even give us an actually working GNOME. </rant>
I doubt it. Unless some of the fixes find their way into the regular distribution. Might happen, but I'm not holding my breath for it.
So, I don't see any reason to panic about KDE in SUSE Linux 10.1 or later. The only side effect would be if YaST2 & other Novell applications are ported/moved to GNOME/GTK2 instead of QT. But hey, I think we can live with that, the GNOME people were able to live with a QT-based YaST2/suseplugger/susewatcher for quite some time ;)
Yep.. And it works. Of course there are those of us that still use the ncurses version. Now that's one that I definitely don't want to go away. My server has no x on it at all. But updates are still coming in thanks to yast2.
