I remember that in 9.0 but no beep in 9.1
Can I ask: Does it always mount? In 9.1 mine is an 'if I feel like it' thing. One day it will mount, the next it won't, even if I reboot with/ without the drive inserted. Same applies to my usb drives. I'm too scared to mess with my fstab.
Dear Colin, I think beep does not have to do anything with the mounting itself. It just signs that the drive is recognized and is ready for mounting. Since in 9.1 and on there is no beep you have to 'feel' when the drive is ready, and this is that I don't like. I don't know if mine would mount or not since I have turned off automatic mounting. I prefer manual mounting, then I know when it is mounted and when not. You can change your fstab, it is easy. First make a bakup of the original fstab, should anything go wrong you can set it back easily. You can find a decriptiopn how to change the fstab at: for 9.1 (applies to 9.2 too, I guess): http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2004/05/ hmeyer_91_revert_from_subfs.html for 9.3: http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2005/05/ dkukawka_subfs_nomount.html http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2005/05/ dkukawka_hal_mountpoints.htm After changing the fstab, you can create a device icon on you desktop. If you use KDE, on the desktop right mouse click -> create new -> link to device -> hard disc device. In the general tab you can give a name for the icon, clicking the device icon you can set up another icon (in 9.2, 9.3 there is very nice pendrive icon). In the device tab you set the device as it is in fstab. You can do this procedure for CD/DVD media too. If you're done you can mount/unmount your device by right mouse clinking on the icon and clicking on mount/unmount. Hope this helps, IG ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Kisbabád lesz? Kisbabád született?
