With respect to Bruce's script, is there any change we'll get to see the jigdo method for making single layer DVDs? That was really neat...
What is the 'jigdo method'?
As far as I know the release candidate of 9.3 that eventually went gold was distributed to beta testers on two single layer DVDs, one i586, one x86_64. Someone made jigdo templates of these discs, and reproducing the discs was then as easy as pointing jigdo to the dual layer DVD for its source.
The difference between this and simply trimming the contents until it fits on a single layer DVD disc, is that the index of packages available corresponds with what's actually on the disc. I haven't had enough time to go delve into the different files on the DVD to see what they contain and what I'll need to edit/change to make a "perfect" 10.0 single layer DVD.

Does this help at all? It's built for the OSS edition, but looks like it may give you the information you need. The documentation is very confusing, but I *think* if you mount a CD or DVD as a loop device, then some part of the jigdo package should be able to build the necessary templates -- no need to input any filenames on the disc. ftp.opensuse.org/pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-10.0-OSS/jigdo/ http://atterer.net/jigdo/
