My friend asked me about (non-free) multimedia support in "boxed" Suse 10.0:

If SUSE has all the codecs in the boxed set then that's brilliant, it would also justify buying a box..."
I know this has been discussed several times before (and that this mailing list is about OpenSuse..), but I do not know where else to ask. I tried to search mail-archive, but it left me still confused about this. Does anybody know if non-free multimedia support in boxed set is only through Realplayer?? Only Realplayer is mentioned in Suse 10.0 product information: http://www.novell.com/products/suselinux/commercial.html
I installed the boxed set on my laptop. When I tried to view a wmv file (windows multimedia video) using xine, I got the error message that says I don't have all the codecs. I'm quite disappointed since some of the media hype talked about "out of the box" multimedia support. But I suppose they may have been talking about Real Player. It's still a bit of a catch, though. -- Donald D. Henson, Managing Director West El Paso Information Network The "Non-Initiation of Force Principle" Rules
