Wel i have tried the mknod and it does not work either. hmmm anyone else have any ideas. not sure how to get it to rescan the ide interface. It sure brings it down great, but rescanning does not work at all. How can you force a rescan of the ide interface?
Hi, What I've understand from the software-Raid Howto about hot-plugging ide drives is that rescan of the ide bus is done with hdparm, but what misses till now(the date of writing is 2004-06-03) was the rescanning of partitions ... you should investigate in this direction ... The only working solution given work with 2.2.x kernels where you could compile ide support as modules : that way you had to unload then reload the module and it worked. Anyway, I don't know how it can work if both of your drives (system and extra) are ide : how to load a module from a device you have just unloaded the driver ??? May the force be with you ...
