Do you have the exact model ?? If the kernel is for 64bits you would have a
kernel panic, not a simple X crash.
maybe your processor is a 64bit one.

But you have HT is the same kernel, the HT in Intel processor work like a
multicore

Again i think you have a 64bits processor with HT, it could be a 64bits bug,
try reinstall with a 32bits vertion but with smp support.
