I think simply unmounting the device, replace it, updating the fstab entries (if you are using fstab) then remounting the device will solve the problem. If you need more details on how to do that just ask.
I have tried this, but the problem is that when you put in the new device it never even does a plug and play on it. Its like the device is not even there.
I'm not sure if this will really work without dammaging the notebook. Most models I've seen thus far were first deactivating the power on the modular devices as the IDE bus usually used in these notebooks is NOT Hotplug aware.
Yes, when i have done this in the past, yes it does damage the drive if it is mounted, but if it is unmounted then it is fine. So is there a way to turn off power to the modular device and then unload it and put in the new device and have it plug and play. I know in the past Dell has made some windows apps that do that for you so that you can have this capability. Does anyone know of a similar Linux App. -Cameron
