Open YaST -> /etc/sysconfig-editor -> Search for "splash" -> Set to "off"

Thanks/Danke! I did not think of this as a splash... I have another question though: I had to deactivate the kde wallet system because I would have to grant access to the wallet about ten times every time I would fetch my mail: although kmail was set up to store the passwords, it would not, or anyway it would still want to access the wallet. Oh, and when you plug in a cf card, it is auto-mounted, but you can't "safely remove" it because you are not root... and you have to su to umount it and format it... I never liked subfs but I had hoped it had got better - will have to deactivate that as well. Is the system so stupid, or am I? Thierry -- The problem with the world is stupidity. Not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself? Frank Zappa
