I was not asked for the passphrase, and if I extract the message it opens OK with gpg.
I have since turned on gpg-agent and now email hangs and I have a bunch of these processes: SL 13:27 0:00 gpg --batch --decrypt
Signed messages are OK
I also cannot open Kgpg it starts the icon flashed a bit and it goes away.
Well kgpg leaves these prcesses behind when it seems to die

At the moment when kmail hangs on signed mail I just go and delete the gpg --batch process
