I can't think of a "magic bullet" at this point. You need to do some troubleshooting. Did you diff the files before the transplant? Can you post what you found? (just the diffs, not the entire files)
Does the monitor work correctly under /any/ settings using the 9.3 file?
It's not really clear for me that between which two files I should make the diffs. But I experimented with the setting and found that the color depth setting causes the difference. If I set the color depth to 16 bit instead of 24 bit (all other setting are the same) I get good picture. This is the diff of the the xorg.conf file (16-bit vs 24-bit): /etc/X11> diff xorg.conf.16bit-OK xorg.conf.24bit-dark 3c3 < # Created on: 2005-09-25T22:16:50+0200. ---

DefaultDepth 24
I can send other info if you need it just please explain clearly what you want. I think the difference is related to the new setup in 10.0 (you can not set the resolution selectively as in 9.3; there is only a 1024x768 (XVGA) option in 10.0) since the xorg-x11 version are the same in my 9.3 and 10.0 system (xorg-x11-6.8.2-30 in 9.3 and xorg-x11-6.8.2-96 in 10.0).
