Hi Ken !.

In another partition of the disc I have installed XP, with which I can connect without problems obtaining the IP of the DHCP, I do not understand where it is the problem :(

Raul

Raul,

'ifup' and 'ifdown' work for me. I use DHCP via the router.

I'm not an expert wrt wifi (or indeed wrt Linux) and have not set up WEP yet. My only access control is SSID.

Have you tried disabling all access control? Can you then get IP via DHCP. Is the firewall getting in the way?

On screen messages during setup of my wifi card often suggest that DHCP has not been successful, but after a few seconds LEDs on wifi card indicate an active link and 'ifconfig' confirms setup (named as 'ath0' in my case).

My router is a NETGEAR DG834GT and wifi card a WG511T. I'm running SuSE v9.1

Hi Ken, I already did it but it does not work :)

Raul,

I don't know if it is relevant, but I had problems with my laptop PC when I had both ethernet and wifi running together.

I overcame this by arranging for these interfaces to be started manually only as and when required. This is in the advanced settings under YAST.

Then it is necessary only to use the commands 'ifup eth0' and 'ifdown eth0', etc

I have a wireless card (PCMCIA) Dlink G630 (B1), running in SuSE 9.3. The card is recognizied, but I cannot connect to internet.
The authentication metod is WEP (128 bits). I configure whith YOU and i try to connect whith Kinternet.

I have not had good results, apparently appears as associate but it does not obtain from router (DHCP) the IP.

Also them comment that previously with other router with wep of 64 bits I could make work it. I clarify this last one by the compatibility of the wireless card.
