I would like to see a choice between server and desktop setups at the beginning of installation which would be used for automatic selection of applications. So that someone at home who just needed office apps. didn't get loaded with server apps like apache and nfs which they will never use, and those setting up servers didn't get sound apps and desktops which serve no real function on a server.
I agree. This is a must. Has anyone read Linux format latest special? There is a two or three sentence install walk through for each new screen shot (30 or something in total), that would be very helpful to newbies. This is for mandrake but a similar text to be included under install would be very helpful indeed.
One thing that I've also found irritating is that during installation I'm asked to select language and region, however, I still have to manually select the relevant language modules and change the default "US" setting on my apps and desktop. It would be great if the information I select at the outset could be used to preselect the related modules and reset the default settings on the selected apps.
This has been discussed before and a bug has been submitted, that hopefully will change this. -- Mvh Kenneth Aar
