I'm suprised you *can* choose 600mhz! As far as I remember the Hyper Transport bus was introduced at 800mhz, and has been bumped to 1ghz since.
Yep, I don't understand that either. But since I didn't know before what that setting was, I left it at default (600). Now I've changed to 800 on all my servers, and everything looks just fine.
All things considered, I'm not sure how much of a difference that would make, if it is what I understand it to be - link between the CPU and whatever is considered as the "north bridge," because any components haning off it communicate at much less than 600mhz anyway. Except maybe for AGP or 16x PCI-e but you're not likely to find/use those on a server board.
Maybe I just don't know enough about the opteron setup - I've never actually had my hands on one....
I doubt it'll make any difference even if the board was to have PCI-Express or AGP.. The AMD 8131 (GOLEM0) chipset is the AMD-8131 HyperTransport PCI-X Tunnel, as can be seen on http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/ProductInformation/0,,30_118_4699_7980%5... --- Anders Norrbring Norrbring Consulting
