3. Linux reads Windows file formats while not vice versa
I'm uncertain what you mean by this. I have Windows versions of open source application installed on my Windows partition and they read files off of my network, ReiserFS, samba-shared, drives without issue.
No, they don't. Linux on your linux box is reading your files in native format, then converting them to SMB protocol packets, and sending them to your Windows box over the network, where Windows converts the SMB packets to its own file structure. Try reading files from a Linux partition inside your Windows box :-). John Perry
