Problems when using internet

Hi:
My daughter recently switched to SuSE 9.2. She connects to the internet
via a dialup line. She can receive mail, and send short mails. If mails
are more than 10 lines or so, then Kmail gives a timeout error. Surfing
the net is possible, except when following links, like when going to
www.ml.com and selecting "benefits on line". Konqueror will just hang
forever. At first she thought it was her ISP, since she had sporadic
similar problems when using MSW, so she switched ISP's but the problem
persists. Bringing the firewall down has no effect, and she has tried
Mozilla with the same results.
I can access those pages from where I live, using a cable connection.
Maybe somebody could tell me where to start looking.
