Thanks to Jack and Ken - Jack recommends using 3ware SATA cards, but here in the UK the only ones I seem to be able to find are hundreds of pounds.
Anyone recommend a cheap SATA card available in the UK that will give reasonable performance and allow me to attach SATA disks reliably to SuSE 9.2 / 9.3 installations?
I replaced my old Advansys SCSI card, which didn't have a driver and so was useless under Linux, and the quite close to dead drives, with a SATA2000 2 channel SATA card[0][1] and a couple of 80GB drives and they work just fine under SuSE 9.3. [2] And so it should be since it's based on the Sil3112ACT chip.
