I'm looking for some comprehensive advice, study materials or book titles so I can figure out how to migrate my company to Linux file servers.
We have two Novell 5.1 and one 5.0 servers which are going really well. They have performed flawlessly for years. It is time to think about putting them out to pasture and replacing them with something bigger.
That would be Novell Open Enterprise Server. It's sort of SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 + Netware in a box.
You can choose between having a Linux or Netware kernel.
But even if you choose Linux (SLES9) you can run all the other Netware stuff on it.
This sounds very nice. Novell have wanted this kind of thing for a very long time. The next step is to create a program that will attach to a server running a particular operating system, which shall remain nameless, and suck the entire configuration out of it, and translate that into the equivalent Linux server. I watched something similar happen to Novell servers about a decade ago. -- Regards, Steven
