DVD won't` eject

In suse 9.2 recently updated I now can not open the DVDRW drive either
manually or with eject. I removed the device from yast rebooted and
reinstalled still the light remains on as though there were a disk
inside.
Also though yast found the device which is on hdc the software
apparently sees it as hdd? I also get some flaky error on boot about
not having a 80 pin cable on the second ide. I installed 9.2 using this
drive now it does not work.
I will check the physical connections but I am puzzled.
I have the 100mb output of hardware info. What should I look for?
