Possibly ~/.firefox, I've had no trouble with 1.0.3 downloaded from the 
mozilla site and installed in /usr/local, I just moved /usr/bin/firefox 
to /usr/bin/FF and ln -s /usr/local/firefox/firefox /usr/local/bin/.
