I am in a situation where I have to change the static IP and DNS reslover for my network. The network is composed of 2 Mac OS X systems, one SuSE 9.1 pro. Naturally the IPs of all machines are going to change. No issue with the OS X systems, things just work there, as Jobs says. (Easy dialogs).
The SuSE box exports files with NFS.
So the question is what has to be changed for the new IPs and DNS entries on SuSE.
Here is what I think I know ...
DNS ... all in the /etc/resolv.conf file. Change the entries and reboot.
static IPs ....
NFS ... change entries in /etc/exports to new IPs. Reboot hosts ... same as above to /etc/hosts
Now what I don't know ...
greping on files in /etc I see IP entries in
/etc/cups/client.conf /etc/sysconfig/SuSEfirewall2 /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth-id-XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX /etc/sysconfig/network/routes
The SuSEfirewall2 entry is in the FW_TRUSTED_NETS parameter which i know i can change as above and reboot.
I have NO CLUE as to the entries in the cups file or more important in the files in /etc/sysconfig/network
Do these have to be entered by hand or is there a YAST shortcut? If they have to be entered by hand could someone point me to the info I need to digest in the network sysadmin guide. Also, are there YAST tools to do all of the above and not have to do hand editing.
AND MOST IMPORTANT ...
did i miss and files in which i have to alter IP or DNS entries?? I only looked in all the files in /etc and all its subdirectories using grep on my existing IP so this would not hit any binary files affected.
Thanks for anyones help john
I would backup /etc, and then will use YaST to change the IP and the DNS. I guess when it runs it's configuration scripts, it is going to fix most of the stuff. Then try to grep again to see if something is not corrected. For sure the firewall should use eth0, etc., not an IP. And if something is wrong, you can always restore from the backup. Cheers Sunny
